Wii Fit Injury?

I've been pretty consistent with stepping on the Wii Fit balance board to do my body test daily. Then I put in a little time doing some aerobic and balance exercises. Yesterday I unlocked the expert level for the rhythm boxing. That's ten minutes of jabbing, stepping, and dodging. It's so much fun, and a good work out.

I think I may have overdone it or dodged when I should have jabbed because this morning I was feeling some pain on my left side in my rib area. Luckily, Aleve is my friend. Needless to say, I'm taking it easy on the Wii Fit today. I'll most likely steer clear of it altogether since the Superbowl will be starting pretty soon anyway. No, I'm not going to watch the game. It's just going to be background noise while I "work" on the computer.

We'll see how I'm feeling tomorrow.

Fitness Friday {Numero Uno}

We haven't had our Wii Fit for quite a week yet, so I don't really have a fitness routine or anything of significance to report. I can tell you that "working out" with the Wii Fit is a lot of fun and seems to work. Just ask my abs because they were hurtin' the day after my first workout.

My goal is to work on strengthening my core muscles in order to improve my posture and alleviate my back pain. I really like the visual cues the Wii Fit gives me. While doing the exercises you need to focus on keeping your balance centered withing the circle or bar that's on the screen. It forces me to engage my core muscles, which is no easy task for me.

My praise report is that I've made doing my body test a daily routine. I'm even trying to step on the balance board to check in at the same time every morning. That's the first step of my routine. Step two will be to map out a workout regime. I like the aerobic exercises, but I want to work a little bit of everything into my routine.

Visit me next week to check on my progress.

If you have a Wii Fit and would like to join in on the fun visit The Cool Mom Guide. They even have fun games with real prizes.

Just Checking In

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I'm still here, it's just been a crazy weekend. And it all started on Friday when I got my early Valentine's Day gift from the men in my life. Last week I was just looking at the iPhone 3G. I was in awe of the speed of the network. I thought it was neat how the screen orientation changed automatically if you turned the phone sideways. I was also impressed with the numerous applications (a lot of them being FREE, my kind of price) for the phone. So I was contemplating switching over from Blackberry (which I loved) to iPhone (which was looking more and more appealing).

Any doubt I may have had about making the switch (none, really) was removed when Daddy had my Blackberry sold on Craig's list within minutes. Okay, I guess I'm getting the iPhone.

I made the switch on 1/23 (how's that for an easy date to remember). I had to learn how to use the phone and it's applications. It's so easy, a baby could do it. But I wouldn't let a baby touch it. Nope. I don't think I can even let Daddy touch it because he dropped it (on the carpet) last night.

That same night was movie night at our church. They were showing the new Veggie Tales movie, Abe and the Amazing Promise. It was all about patience. Hmm, imagine that. That's a lesson we can all benefit from (yes, me included).

The following day was another big day. Picasso participated in his very first Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby.

Each boy got a block of wood back in December. Plenty of time to work on the cars right? Right. Except Picasso and Daddy didn't start working on it until about two weeks before the derby. But, they did get it done. The finished product was exactly 5 ounces, which is within regulation. Unfortunately, as we found out later, the weight wasn't strategically placed on the car. We took notes for next year.

Picasso couldn't come up with a name for his car, so we gave him a little assistance. This is "Da Kine." It was no match for "Master Yoda," the name of the car that took over-all first place. May the force be with you.

That's Picasso on the left running his first race. His car couldn't beat either of the other two that it ran against. Better luck next year, buddy.

And here he is with "Da Kine." His spirits weren't crushed. It was a fun time. He got his first taste of the Pinewood Derby and knows what to expect for next year (muscle and sweat).

And the creme de la creme. The highlight of the weekend. Daddy went to Fred Meyer first thing Sunday morning after getting the low-down from an employee the day before that they might be getting a shipment of Wii Fits. We had been searching all over, without luck. Fred Meyer had fifteen of them Sunday morning.

Then, just because we already had ours, the very next day Wal Mart had three of them on their shelf. Isn't that always how it goes? The same thing happened after we got our Wii Console last year. That's just the kind of luck we have. But, we got the Wii Fit, and we've been putting it to the test. Or it's been putting us to the test.

My Wii Fit age is 46. Am I surprised? Nope. My back is messed up along with my posture and balance, but I'm working on it. After doing a little Wii Fit work-out yesterday I woke up this morning feeling a little tightness in my abs. It felt like I did a thousand sit-ups. Stay tuned for my progress.
